Ovulation induction is required both in IUI and IVF. The higher degree of stimulation may be required for IVF.
There are two categories of patients
  • Those who don’t form eggs-called anovulatoy
  • Those who have normal eggs but we want to make more number of eggs to get better results in IUI or IVF.
Various drugs used for ovulation induction
Depending upon the aim of induction (for IUI or IVF) age, hormonal status etc various protocols have been developed for induction of ovulation
Oral
  • Clomifene citrate-oral
  • Letrazole-oral
 Injections
  • Gonadotrophines- recombinanat FSH, highly purified FSH
  • LH(lutinizing hormone)
  • HMG(human menopausal gonadotrophin)- highly purified, or standard
  • GnRh anatagonist
  • GnRH analogs
 Various combinations have been used in different doses and every clinic follows an individualized protocol for each patient.
In IVF cycles the injections for egg formation usually continue for 12 days.
